Research
I’m interested in the μορφή in “geomorphology,” the emergence of patterns, shapes, and order in landscapes, especially in arid, semi-arid, and island environments. In particular I am interested in the role of random environmental noise in driving ecogeomorphological systems into patterned or ordered states and new computational approaches to understanding landscape complexity. I have also done work on the influence of island resources, morphology, and distribution in shaping economic development in small-island states with a focus on the Maldives.
