Passing of Pow Choon Piew
Dear Colleagues,
It saddens me to inform you of the untimely death of one of my former Ph.D. students, Prof. Pow Choon Piew, of the National University of Singapore Geography Department. Pow received his BA and MA at NUS and his Ph.D. from UCLA in 2006. Other members of his committee included Cindy Fan and Bill Clark. Those who knew Pow at UCLA will remember him as an extremely serious student and generous colleague with a very sly sense of humor.
Pow joined the faculty at NUS soon after completion of his degree and remained there throughout his career distinguishing himself as an excellent teacher and expert on Chinese urbanism. His work featured an Asia-centric perspective on Chinese cities and gained wide admiration among his Chinese colleagues.
Please see below the link to a translation of a celebration of his career written by several of his Chinese colleagues:

I hope your summers are going well and that you have had time to recuperate from what must have been an extraordinarily exhausting year.
Stay well,
Nick
